Position Description
Mechanic maintains diesel equipment, fleet vehicles, trailers, Sercos, Front end loaders, skid steer and shop operations equipment by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements. This includes correcting vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments, alignments and maintaining maintenance records. Position also includes helping maintain wood chipping system and conveyor system.
Major Areas of Responsibilities
Change and fix conveyor belts, electrical motors, and change bearings and pullies on conveyor system
Determines vehicle/equipment/trailer condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests and identifying worn and damaged parts
Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing upgrades for components and parts, controlling corrosion and completing winterization procedures
Corrects vehicle/equipment/trailer deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and/or replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems including electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering and hydraulics
Completes machine shop operations by making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches and traction units
Evaluates tire performance and issues. repairs or replaces tires as needed
Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems as needed
Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards
Fabricates, hard surface welds and repairs parts and accessories with MIG and stick welder
Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs and keeps schedule of required preventative maintenance
Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs when needed
Periodically travels to perform urgent repairs on hydraulic and diesel equipment
Contains costs by using warranties when available and evaluating service and parts options
Keeps supplies ready by maintaining stock, placing orders and verifying receipt
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and staying current on technical and regulation publications
Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education is preferred
Valid driver s license required, Class A CDL preferred (must not have any major driving offenses within the last three years)
Strong mechanical background, with the ability to demonstrate proficiency for all required skill sets and effectively troubleshoot problems on new assembly and/or repair work on older equipment
Must work well with others on a team, while still being able to complete tasks independently
Effective written communication skills, including the ability to read and write in English
Demonstrated problem-solving ability
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and effectively manage multiple tasks/job assignments per day
Must be able to pass a railroad background check to obtain and maintain the credentials to work on railroad property (i.e. no criminal convictions within the last seven years, must not have completed a jail sentence or probation within the last five years)
Work Requirements
Dependable and consistent attendance/punctuality
Understand and accurately interpret/follow laws, rules, regulations, and other railroad/Omaha Track guidelines
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a diverse group
Ability to transverse and work on uneven surfaces in an outdoor environment submit to all elements/conditions
Will frequently work near moving mechanical parts, vibrating surfaces, parts with extreme temperature variation
Will be exposed to airborne particles, toxic and/or caustic chemicals
Personal protective equipment must be used/worn as required
Ability to change easily from one task to another (varying in nature) and deal with competing demands
Ability to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to:
lifting/carrying (up to 100lbs), sitting, kneeling, climbing, standing, walking, bending, squatting, pulling, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shouldersEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
